This program is for competitive golf and not recreational golf.
It is to your benefit that you play in summer tournaments before tryouts. The more tournaments you play in will help you with becoming a better player and dealing with the pressure of competitive golf. In addition to summer tournaments, it's beneficial to put in range time and time on the golf course as much as possible. If it's important to you, you will put the time and effort into being ready for tryouts.
You may find summer junior golf tournament information on these websites:
Northern Texas Junior Golf Tour http://juniorgolf.ntpga.org/
Texas Junior Golf Tour http://www.tjgt.com/
American Junior Golf Association http://www.ajga.org/index-normal.asp
The Texas Junior Golf Tour (TJGT) and the American Junior Golf Tour (AJGT) are for more accomplished golfers.
The Northern Texas Junior Golf Tour has tournaments for your beginner, intermediate or accomplished golfer.
During tryouts, freshmen and sophomores are graded differently than juniors and seniors. Freshmen and sophomores can make the varsity squads and we have many that have accomplished this feat. Juniors and seniors should be competing for a top 5 spot. Seniors not ranking in the top 5 will not play in JV tournaments.
During the spring and summer months prior to tryouts, players are expected to play 8-10 tournament days that do not include school tournaments:
Freshmen: Average 100 or less to make the team in summer tournaments and/or tryouts.
Sophomores: Average 88 or less to make the team in summer tournaments and/or tryouts.
Juniors: Average 84 or less to make the team in summer tournaments and/or tryouts.
Seniors: Average 82 or less to make the team in summer tournaments and/or tryouts.
Please send your spring/summer tournament schedule to bryan.humphreys@gcisd.net by June 1.
On the day of tryouts:
The cost of tryouts will be $22 payable to Grapevine GC before each round.
Please check in at the pro shop, pay your green fee and warm up before tryouts begin.
There are no spectators allowed during tryouts. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
Tee times will be posted on this website by 6pm the day prior to play.
Please report to the #1 tee 10 minutes prior to your tee time. Tryouts will be 18 holes for boys and girls each day.
The golf course superintendent will determine the course the morning of each day's play.
It's in your best interest to play practice rounds during the summer to become familiar with Grapevine's 3 courses.
Gentlemen will play from the white, blue or black tees. There may be cuts made after each round due to your skill and/ or grade level.
Ladies will play from the purple or white tees. There may be cuts made after each round due to your skill and/ or grade level.
Players will carry their own bags or use a push cart. Be prepared for hot and humid conditions by having a water bottle, towel, extra gloves, sunscreen and hat. We will provide water at stations on the golf course.
It is important for players to have played in extreme weather conditions before trying out for the team. Please take time to build up your endurance in preparation for tryouts.
